Blade Eagle 3-D

Comments: This seems like it is a very cool game. I've never played it fully because I have no 3D glasses. One thing I can say is it damn hard. I think the scrolling in and out to be a cool feature.

Comments: I'm sure everyone is aware of how this game was released on the NES as Adventure Island. The one thing that AI has over WB is the music. It actually had pleasant music that changed with every stage, instead of the same lame song level after level. It's enough to drive you crazy! Other than that this is a fine game, although in a different flavor than the two WB sequels. The character sprite in this game is much better than AI. Hudson Soft made him look stupid.

Space Harrier 3-D

From: Kid Icarus
Comments: I have this game and it is very cool. The only problem is that since I don't have the 3D glasses, I can't enjoy the game fully. I have never been a huge Space Harrier fan, but this is a good game that is better than the original. Because it adds new challenges, this game is basically a sequel. Sega did the same thing with Out Run 3D. Overall a good game.

Comments: A very good arcade translation, but I have never been a huge Space Harrier fan. I like using the code that turns your character into the small jet, but it doesn't seem to make the game any easier. Even so it is fun.

Comments: This is a good game that is exactly the same as the Game Gear version. If you have it already, its not worth getting unless you are a collector. I've never been a huge Sonic fan, but this game is okay.

Comments: A great game and a must have for any SMS owner. Very good for an 8-bit arcade translation. Much better than Tengen's shitty NES version. This is the one to own. I have played this game a lot, but to this day have never beat it (the ending is really shitty). If you want a great game with a great challenge, get off your ass and get this!

Double Dragon

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: This is a sweet game but I'm not so sure about the comparison to the NES version. This game is missing several elements of its NES brother: music(specifically the title screen), the two-player vs. mode, some enemies, and several gameplay elements (climbing up ladders). I just don't find this game to be as enjoyable. The last level is impossible to beat without using the cheat. Yes, this version is two player, but it is so flickery it is nearly unplayable. Neither version is great, but I have both and consider the NES version to have a slight edge. You may disagree, but that's alright. Whichever version you prefer is fine when its a great game like Double Dragon.

Out Run

From: Kid Icarus
Comments: I love this game. The arcade version was actually the first game I ever played back in 1986 when I was four. The SMS version is pretty good considering that it's 8-bit. It's much better than Square's Rad Racer for the NES. Out Run 3D definitely exists. I see copies of it for sale all the time. It is probably the rarest in-demand game, however, and consequently copies usually sell for $80-$120. Anyway, this game kicks ass and I give it a ten. It's a must-have!

Comments: A great game that, unlike the NES version, which was a different game, is an exact arcade translation. It's a shame that this game wasn't released here in the states, because it's awesome. When compared to the Playstation version on Atari Collection Vol. 2, this game plays exactly the same (obviously the graphics aren't as good), with all the sounds present. The biggest problem with this game is that there is no four-player option, which is by far the best way to play. Even so, its a great game.

Golden Axe Warrior

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: Sega's response to the Legend of Zelda. And a good response it is. This game is awesome. It plays exactly like Zelda, but has its own original storyline based on the arcade hit Golden Axe. The game clearly was influenced by Nintendo's ground-breaking masterpiece. I've heard some people claim that this game came out first, but that is ridiculous. It came out in 1990 here in the US, and possibly earlier overseas, but I'm sure not before July 1987 when Legend of Zelda came out. Anyway, it really doesn't matter because the game kicks ass. It can be quite expensive, but I find the price to be well woth it for a game as great as this.

Columns

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: One of the late, great SMS titles. As a puzzle game, Columns is second only to Tetris in terms of fun. Columns is far sperior, however, in the area of challenge. It takes a long time to master this difficult game. This version is very good, especially in two player mode. While inferior graphics and sound-wise as compared to the Genesis version, it still is a great game and a must-have SMS title.

Fantasy Zone

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: One of the greats. Fantasy Zone is one of my favourite games for the Master System. It had great graphics and sound and responsive controls. In fact, I think the control is too responsive. The sensitive controls make moving a real challenge. You will often crash into stuff until you get used to the game. This version is far superior to the NES version released by Tengen, which has poor graphics and sound and sluggish controls. This is the version to get. This game is a great shooter and a ripping game overall which every SMS collection is incomplete without.

Ghouls and Ghosts

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A good late-period SMS game. It is a good game, but is a little weak being 8-bit. It would have made more sense to release Ghosts 'N Goblins, which was great on the NES. This game is okay, but other versions exist that are cheaper and are much better (SNES and Genesis). If you can find this game cheap, get it. Otherwise, it's for collector's only.

After Burner

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: I've never been all that impressed with this game. While the arcade version was excellent, this version just doesn't have it. It's just boring. All you do is bank hard right or left when a missile comes and you can't die until you get to a certain level, then you die. The levels go on and on - all the same. It is a fairly good translation, but the fun just isn't there.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A true SMS classic that belongs in every collection. Great story, graphics, sound, gameplay, etc. etc.etc. You just can't describe how great it is. None of the sequels ever were up to par with the awesome original. I don't know why Sega scrapped Alex in favor of Sonic (who I've never been that fond of). I find him to be a better character. Oh well. If there is anything bad about this game it's that like Fantasy Zone, the controls are very sensitive and you often crash right into enemies. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Anyway, I give this game a ten because it rules.

Alex Kidd in Shinobi World

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A very cool Alex Kidd game. Nowhere near as good as Miracle World, but probably the second best in the series. I love Shinobi, so I'm very fond of this game. It has great features like the weapons you get and I like the way the boses are adaptations of the Shinobi bosses. It's not that challenging, but overall its a good game.

Alien Syndrome

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A pretty cool game and a decent arcade translation. I haven't played this game that much so I can't say much about it, but it seems to be a little boring. This was one of the titles that Tengen released for the NES. I've never played that version, but if it's anything like Fantasy Zone or Shinobi, it's probably lousy. I like this game, but it just doesn't hold my interest long enough to get that far into it.

Comments: A very good shooter with some strategic elements. I like how you can point the guns in different directions. It comes in quite handy! I've never gotten very far in this game because it's pretty hard. I like it, but its a little hard to come by and is not a must-have. If you like shooters, get it.

Castle of Illusion

Fantasy Zone 3: The Maze

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A game that you either love or hate. Many people don't like this game because it's much different. I think it's a good change of pace. This is one of the few puzzle games for the SMS. It reminds me somewhat of Clu Clu Land for the NES. Probably because like Clu Clu Land, it's much more fun when played with two people. It would have been cool if they made another "regular" Fantasy Zone sequel, but I like this one.

Great Baseball

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: It's a good baseball game, though I've heard that the later released Reggie Jackson Baseball is much better. I'll settle for this for now. A great game with an amazing amount of features for such an early title. It's definitely worth checking out if you want a SMS baseball game.

Hang On & Safari Hunt

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: This game is built into my system (as it is in most MS1 Power Bases). Hang-On is alright, but nothing like the arcade game. It's very simple and not that fun to play. I find Safari Hunt to be much more fun to play. It's a great gun game. It's the only gun game I have for SMS, but I will say that I like it even more than Duck Hunt for NES. It is a lot more interesting and challenging as the levels actually change. Believe it or not the game is actually beatable. It ends after round 69 (I think). If these games aren't built into your system, you should pick up this combo cart.

Lemmings

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: A cool game that requires you to think fast and act fast in order to keep your Lemmings alive. It's pretty funny when you fuck up and they go splattering to the ground or down a hole. It's a fun game that is worth getting, but is hard to find as it was never released here in the states. If you like puzzle-type games you might like it.

Out Run Europa

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: Game is average. It's nothing like other Out Run games. You are a spy who rides different types of vehicles across Europe in pursuit of some thieves. It has racing with some shooting required. The first level is like Mach Rider for NES. It's okay, but doesn't compare to other Out Run games like the awesome original.

Penguin Land

Comments: I like this game because for one thing it never gets old. The level creator is a great feature. The game is pretty fun. I think it was influenced by the Pengo arcade game, but I'm not sure. It's a great puzzle game.

Psycho Fox

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: An awesome game. I don't know why Sega never made a sequel to this game. I love how you can transform into the different animals and use their powers. This is one of my favorites. The only thing I don't like about this game is that on the back of the box, they crack on Metroid. That's not cool. Other than that, it's a great game.

Rampage

2001-02-24
From: Kid Icarus
Comments: The best thing about this game is that it actually has all three characters (unlike the NES version). This version is much better and is a great arcade translation. I always loved the arcade version of this game. The one thing I find incredibly annoying about this game is the music. I makes you want to blow your head off after a while! Put on some music and you should be fine.

Comments: Hey is that Conan? This game is cool but very hard. One funny thing is the chicks in the instruction manual all have bare tits. Too bad they don't do shit like that anymore. I've never played the arcade version of this game, but this version is a good game in itself.

Comments: You can have hours of fun playing this game, but only if you are deaf, or mute the sound and put some music on because the repetitive music will drive you mad. Other than that, it's a great game that never gets old.
